{"id":4250,"date":"2021-09-07T11:04:25","date_gmt":"2021-09-07T11:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abortioncare.nl\/?page_id=4250"},"modified":"2026-05-04T10:56:40","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T10:56:40","slug":"appointments","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/abortioncare.nl\/en\/abortion\/appointments\/","title":{"rendered":"Appointments"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-4927c815\"><div class=\"gb-inside-container\">\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\" id=\"appointments\">Appointments<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you want to book an appointment for a consultation or treatment?&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/abortioncare.nl\/en\/contact\/\">Call us on weekdays<\/a>, available on weekdays from 8.30 AM to 4:45 PM.&nbsp;Please keep in mind that the clinic is usually quite busy during morning hours and you may be on hold for a while.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When booking your appointment, we will ask for the following information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your name, date of birth and telephone number.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your Citizen Service Number (Burgerservicenummer\/BSN) if you live in the Netherlands.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The date of the first day of your last menstruation, or your ultrasound scan records.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are on medication, are overweight or have a medical condition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Which treatment you have chosen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Treatment of pregnancies of 18 weeks or more are only performed at location Haarlem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"younger-than-16\">Younger than 16<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are younger than 16, you need permission (in writing) of one of your parents or your legal guardian to have an abortion. If that is impossible, please contact our clinic. We will help you out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"appointment-cancellation\">Appointment cancellation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you want to cancel? Do you want to reschedule your appointment? Please call us as soon as possible <a href=\"tel:+31-0-858220798\">+31 (0) 85 822 0798<\/a>, available on weekdays from 8.30 AM to 4:45 PM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"your-clinic-visit-alone-or-accompanied\">Your clinic visit: alone or accompanied?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s great if someone can come with you. You may come with one companion to the clinic. This could be your partner, a friend or a family member. It is up to you if you want this person to be present at the doctor\u2019s consultation. First, the doctor will want a quick word with you on your own, to make sure the abortion really is your decision. The person accompanying you is not allowed to be present during the treatment or in the recovery room. No children are allowed at the clinic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there is no one to accompany you and you are finding it hard to go to your appointment on your own, you can choose an abortion buddy. An abortion buddy is a volunteer who will accompany you to the clinic. So you can make an appointment directly in one of our clinics.<br>Have you been to your doctor or gynaecologist and have you received a referral letter? Then take it with you to your appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I am underage, do I need my parents\u2019 permission?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are 15 or younger, you and one of your parents or legal guardian need to give permission for treatment, so you can never be forced to have an abortion. If you are unable to notify you parent(s) or guardian, please call us on\u00a0<a href=\"tel:+31858220798\">+31 (0)85 822 0798<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are 16 or older, you don\u2019t need your parents\u2019 or guardian\u2019s permission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I have had an abortion before. Is that a problem?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A previous abortion poses no physical objections for the treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Can my partner or companion be present during the treatment?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your partner or companion can be present during the consultation and preliminary examination by the doctor and during the additional interview with the nurse. However, the doctor will first want a quick word with you on your own. Your partner or companion is not allowed to be present during the actual treatment or at your bedside before or after the treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Can you fit a coil (IUD) after the abortion?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For pregnancies up to 15 weeks, directly after the abortion treatment you can have a coil (IUD) fitted. If you have chosen for the abortion pill, you can have an IUD fitted during the follow-up, four weeks after the abortion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have health insurance in the Netherlands, the IUD insertion procedure is free of charge, but the IUD itself is not free, and can be purchased at our clinic. Both hormonal and non-hormonal IUDs are available. Some health insurances cover (part of) the costs of the IUD. Please contact your health insurer for any medical cover. If you are younger than 18, both IUD insertion procedure and IUD are free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Are abortion costs covered by my health insurance?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No. If you live or work in the Netherlands, you don\u2019t have to pay for the abortion. The costs are fully covered by the Long-term Care Act (Wet Langdurige Zorg; WLZ; a national insurance scheme for exceptional medical expenses). We don\u2019t inform your health insurer about the abortion and no money is deducted from your health insurance\u2019s deductible excess (\u2018eigen risico\u2019). You remain anonymous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In some case the costs are not covered by the Long-term Care Act. Ask for more information when you make the appointment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How about my privacy?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We handle your personal information extremely careful and only give information to family or friends after your explicit consent. For example, if you know a family member or friend will call us to inquire after your health, please let the receptionist know.
